It was May 1st, 1987 and our team was playing in the district tournament. It was my senior year. The team we were playing against, I have hit this team very well throughout the four years our team has played them. I hit 2 three run doubles against them my freshman year. Six RBI’s that I hit in that game. Back to the district tournament, my coach was mad at me because I went to wash my glasses instead of going to the team meeting. First at bat, he was coaching third base. He turned his back to me and I hit a line drive at him. He heard it coming at him and he got out of the way of the baseball. Two pitches later, I get this fastball chest high down the middle of the plate and my eyes lit up. As baseball players would say, it was in my lighthouse. I hit the baseball over the 370 foot mark in left-center field by a good bit. I drove it like a golf ball. The home run was so impressive that the American Legion coach asked me to play on his team. The one regret I do have is not playing on the American Legion team when the opportunity was there. There is a picture of my home run baseball I have even to this day. The two degrees were the other times I was on cloud nine or that five minute bliss. My dad got to see me hit my home run. He told a friend, That’s my boy. I dedicate this booklet of poetry I wrote over 30 years ago to my Dad, who passed away January 23rd of this year and my mom. They both were awesome parents and they were married 55 years. I hope people enjoy this booklet of poetry I have written. God bless and keep the faith.
